Diapers You
How many diapers should I have on hand before my baby is born?

How many boxes of diapers and in what sizes should i have on hand? How many diaper changes a day do you usually go through with a newborn? My daughter is due December 25th. My first baby.

Aww, a Christmas baby. I was born on the 23rd of Dec, so a little advice off topic. Make sure to ALWAYS seperate your baby’s birthday and Christmas stuff. No JOINT gifts, no Christmas themed parties or gifts etc. And always give the better/bigger gifts for birthday, not Christmas. LOL. Congrats to you.

As a Newborn, expect an average of 10 -12 diaper changes a day, but it will vary a little bit. Keep in mind that some babies are born too big for Newborn diapers, and those that aren’t will most likely grow out of them quickly (not counting premies.). So don’t get too many Newborn Diapers. You can always get more if you need them. Also, DO NOT open the newborn ones until you actually need to use them. If they are unopened, most stores will exchange them for another size or brand, even without a receipt.

Size 1′s will also go fairly quick. My son was born at 7lbs4.6 oz and by 3 months, he was already in Size 2 diapers and he is on the small side. He is still in size 2′s now at 7 months old. So I would stock up on size 2′s. Most of my friends and family used more size 2′s and 3′s than any other size.

Another thing to keep in mind: You may not know what brand you prefer until baby gets here. Personally, I’ve used Huggies, Pampers BabyDry, Pampers Swaddlers, White Cloud, Luvs and Parents Choice. The only ones I’ve liked are the Pampers Swaddlers. They fit my son the best, they seem the most comfortable on him, and all the other brands had blowouts or leaks.
Be careful not to stock up too much thinking you will want to use a certain brand, because you may find that another brand works best once your baby gets here.

I wish you a quick and easy labor and a very healthy Christmas baby.
